Hello! We are Cycle Bristol CTC, the local member group of Cycling UK, formerly The Cyclists' Touring Club, which is Britain's oldest and largest national cycling organisation.
As our name suggests, our focus is a little different from many other clubs. It's all about the essential spirit of "touring". That doesn't only mean exotic places, however, although there may occasionally be some of those! Our focus is neither speed nor endurance, but the pleasure of being out on the bicycle in pleasant surroundings, both locally and on trips away. On a ride with us you will have the support of experienced leaders and a companionable and varied group. Our members span many ages and levels of fitness. Some of our most active leaders are women. All our rides and trips aim at inclusivity in every sense. While some of our rides take a full day, they are never about competition, endurance, or hurry!
At the Severn Caravan Park on the outskirts of Welshpool, Powys.
The campsite has 2 bunkhouses which can sleep 18 people, there are a variety of twin, double and multi bed rooms. The bunkhouses are well equipped with kitchens and showers. As well as the bunkhouses there is an adjoining campsite. We will have exclusive use of the bunkhouses assuming we get enough bookings.
We will plan a variety of rides and have some social gatherings. It is a great cycling area with lots of interesting places in the vicinity. Further details to follow.

In 2026 CycleBristolCTC is organising a fixed base cycling week 1st to the 8th June based in Cheddar, Somerset; the Club Independant Bordelais (CIB) will be joining us for the week.
The Club Independant Bordelais (CIB) is a cycling club based in Bordeaux, France, known for its twinning with the UK-based CycleBristol CTC club. The two clubs have been meeting up for many years, last year we met in France hosted by the CIB.
Cheddar, Somerset, is an excellent cycling base offering a diverse range of routes that cater to all abilities, from the challenging climbs of the Mendip Hills to the flat, traffic-free paths of the Somerset Levels. Why Cheddar is a Great Cycling Base:
Variety of Terrain: The location offers a unique blend of flat, easy routes across the Somerset Levels to the south, and significant, iconic climbs into the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) to the north.
Iconic Climbs: The famous Cheddar Gorge climb itself is a "top three UK must do" for road cyclists, known for its dramatic scenery and varying gradients. Nearby Burrington Combe offers another popular, undulating ascent.
Traffic-Free Options: The village provides easy access to the Strawberry Line, a largely traffic-free, family-friendly path built on a former railway line that runs to Yatton, passing through tunnels and orchards.
Extensive Network: Cheddar is at the heart of hundreds of miles of quiet country lanes and connects to the National Cycle Network (Route 26 passes through the village).
From Cheddar we can realistically ride to and explore Wells, Glastonbury, Bath & Bristol all with a lot of historic interest as well as the Somerset levels with some prehistoric interest and the Mendip Hills, Wookey Hole, the Ebbor Gorge and to the coast at Weston-super-Mare.
We will be based at the Cheddar Woods Resort & Spa, the resort offers lodges with 4 to 8 beds in a variety of room configurations consisting of double and twin rooms, some of the larger lodges come with a hot tub! You can book via the Hoseasons website https://www.hoseasons.co.uk/accom/cheddar-woods-resort-spa-bway or tel no: 01934742610 or go direct to Darwin Escapes https://darwinescapes.co.uk/cheddar-woods-resort-spa/.
We will be having group meals at the resort which has a bar and restaurant as well as a swimming pool and Spa (additional cost). We will need to organise menu choices in due course as the restaurant needs them one week in advance. We also plan to have some evening events.
For those that wish to camp there is a suggested campsite Petruth Paddocks 2 miles away https://www.petruthpaddocks.co.uk/. When booking give the reference 'CycleBristolCTC'. There are other campsites available plus the YHA in Cheddar itself and B&B's/Hotels. If you are camping etc please book direct with the Petruth Campsite or the one of your choosing. Please let Maggie Choyce (details below) know you will be attending.
For Ferry and Train to and in UK enquiries please contact Mick Ellis mickellis202@gmail.com.
For the UK contingent: If you are interested please book your own accommodation. You would need to be in groups of 4, 6 or 8. If you are travelling alone or wish to join another group Maggie Choyce will be keeping a list of all the people who have booked as well as those that are interested in booking but wish to join another group booking. As long as people are happy to have their names/emails/phone numbers passed to other people we should be able to match people up. For general enquiries please contact Maggie Choyce via email: maggie.choyce@gmail.com. If you have any questions about the resort or lodges please contact the Resort direct. We will create a Whatsapp group in due course for attendees.
For the CIB Contingent Richard Heelis will be the contact and will be providing similar information direct to the CIB contacts.
It will be a fun week and offer the opportunity to meet up with friends old and new. We are looking forward to seeing you!

We organise cycle rides most weekends all year round. The aim of these is to get out in a friendly and supportive group to enjoy the wonderful countryside within reach of Bristol. The rides are led by experienced leaders along routes they have scouted or ridden before. We aim every weekend to offer both an easy shorter ride to a suitable café, and longer and more adventurous "country" ride of up to 100 miles. All ages are welcome, including minors if accompanied by an adult The longer and shorter rides alternate between Saturday and Sunday to give as many people as possible an opportunity to join either or both.
Our shorter café rides are especially designed and run to encourage cyclists, whether new or returners, who want an easy and supportive way of "getting out" on the bike. They start from and return to venues with toilets and parking, run at a very easy pace and take no more than a half day.
On longer Country rides we stop for morning coffee, lunch (usually at a country pub), and where appropriate, afternoon tea.
Almost all our rides (except for a few clearly advertised as such) are run to accommodate the pace of the slowest rider - so you won't get left behind! Joining a ride does not commit you to the whole day. If you prefer, come for the morning or whatever suits. See our Rides Calendar for further details. All the rides' start points and further information about our rides can be found here.
If you are not a member of Cycling UK, you are welcome to come along and try three rides before joining, just turn up at the start.
Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult. In addition all minors under the age of 18 must complete and bring along this Parental consent form.
On Wednesday evenings in the summer we enjoy short leisurely rides to a local pub.
We aim for a Spring and Autumn weekend away annually, as well as more occasional long weekends (or longer) both in the UK and abroad. Organised and led by our members these offer a slightly more adventurous entry into the spirit of cycle touring, with group support and without any pressure. Accommodation is usually in suitable bunkhouses or camping.
Cycle Bristol CTC members organise and/or promote and support several 100k audax rides and special events during the year. For details look at www.aukweb.net.
So come and join the happy and friendly world of CTC Club Cycling! Meet new people, keep fit, enjoy yourself and explore the wonderful countryside on our doorstep from your bike!
Our calendar lists forthcoming rides and events. Please feel free to turn up at the start if any appeal to you!
